Effect of pit and fissure sealants on caries detection by a fluorescent camera system
Journal of Dentistry, 2013The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of sealant placement on the detection of caries by a fluorescent camera (FC), the Spectra caries detector.In a laboratory study, FC images and readings were obtained from 31 extracted teeth, before and following application of clear sealants (Shofu Clear or Delton unfilled), or opaque sealants (3M ...

Microdentistry: current pit-and-fissure caries management.
Compendium of continuing education in dentistry (Jamesburg, N.J. : 1995), 2002The systemic application of fluoride has rendered enamel more resistant to decalcification and decay. While the incidence and severity of dental caries has decreased, the diagnosis of caries in this enamel environment has created significant new challenges and dilemmas.

The role of pit-and-fissure discoloration in caries assessment.
Compendium of continuing education in dentistry (Jamesburg, N.J. : 1995), 2002Occlusal dental caries often is not apparent using traditional diagnostic techniques. The clinical significance of pit-and-fissure discoloration in the absence of dietary and habit substances was examined. The study included 462 extracted teeth (216 with obvious pit-and-fissure discoloration, 216 with subtle discoloration, and 30 with no discoloration);

Sealing of pits and fissures with an adhesive resin: its use in caries prevention
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1967A clinical study to determine the effectiveness of an enamel adhesive in protecting pits and fissures from dental decay indicated that the technic has potential as a caries-preventive measure. The adhesive resin can be strongly bonded to enamel surfaces for comparatively long periods.

The Role of Pit and Fissure Sealants in the Prevention of Dental Caries
2018Occlusal surfaces of first permanent molars are the most susceptible sites for the caries in the developing of permanent dentition, but the use of sealants compared to fluoride varnishes on their pit and fissures to limit the onset of tooth decay is still debated today.

Adhesive Sealing of Pits and Fissures for Caries Prevention, With Use of Ultraviolet Light
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1970Complete protection against caries was obtained when tooth surfaces were shielded from exposure to the oral environment. Tests of a new adhesive material that hardens when exposed to ultraviolet light showed 100% caries protection after one year in 200 deciduous and permanent teeth. Forty-two percent of the matched contralateral control teeth developed
