Two New Species of Hechtia (Bromeliaceae, Pitcairnioideae) from Western Mexico
Brittonia, 1993Hechtia glauca andHechtia iltisii are described as new and illustrated. Among the Bromeliaceae H. glauca is unusual in its glabrous, glaucous leaf surfaces. Inflorescence and floral dimorphisms are discussed forH. glauca andH. iltisii. A key to species ofHechtia from Novo-Galiciana and adjacent parts of Michoacan is included.

Pitcairnia anarosae (Bromeliaceae; Pitcairnioideae) a new species from the state of Oaxaca, México
Phytotaxa, 2020Pitcairnia anarosae, known until now from the municipality of San Juan Colorado, Oaxaca, Mexico, is described and illustrated. The new species is compared with P. singularis, from which differs by the plant height (19–40 vs 15–25 cm) the number of leaves (5–8 vs 3–4), and the morphology, color (red vs white) and length of flowers.

Phylogenetic Relationships of Groups of Genera within the Subfamily Pitcairnioideae (Bromeliaceae)
Systematic Botany, 1988The phylogenetic relationships among the sixteen genera of the subfamily Pitcair- nioideae are resolved with the aid of cladistic methods. Two genera of Velloziaceae (Barbacenia, Vellozia) and three each from the bromeliad subfamilies Tillandsioideae (Glomeropitcairnia, Guzmania, Vriesea) and Bromelioideae (Hohenbergia, Neoregelia, and Orthophytum ...

The neotropical genus Fosterella L.B. Smith (Pitcairnioideae, Bromeliaceae) comprises about 30 species, with a centre of diversity in semiarid to humid habitats of the Andean slopes and valleys of Bolivia. Morphologic differentiation of species is difficult because of a paucity of diagnostic characters, and little is known about the infrageneric ...

Nectar Secretion Pattern and Removal Effects in Six Argentinean Pitcairnioideae (Bromeliaceae)
Botanica Acta, 1992AbstractNectar secretion pattern and effects of nectar removal were analyzed in six hummingbird‐pollinated Argentinean Pitcairnioideae: Abromeitiella brevifolia. A. lorentziana, Deuterocohnia longipetala. Dyckia floribunda, D. ragonesei and Puya spathacea. Flower lifetime was determined in each case.

Novelties in Pitcairnia (Bromeliaceae; Pitcairnioideae): three new species from Mexico
PhytotaxaThree new species of Pitcairnia from Mexico are proposed: P. aleserratoae was found in Guerrero, Morelos, and Puebla; P. gracielae known from the Estado de Mexico and Morelos while P. pugana has been collected in Jalisco. Information on distribution, habitat and phenology is provided for each species. The new taxa are compared with P.

SEED MORPHOLOGY OF THE SUBFAMILY PITCAIRNIOIDEAE (BROMELIACEAE) AND ITS SYSTEMATIC IMPLICATIONS
American Journal of Botany, 1988Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations of seed samples of 75 species representing fourteen Pitcairnioideae genera combined with some seed developmental and germination data revealed six classes of seed morphology (the Dyckia type, Puya ferruginea type, Puya hamata type, Fosterella type, Navia type and the Brocchinia type).

Taxonomic review of the Dyckia remotiflora complex (Bromeliaceae, Pitcairnioideae)
PhytotaxaSeveral species complexes of Dyckia s.s. have been investigated in recent years, with the taxonomy of the genus regarded as one of the most challenging within the family. In this study, we propose the circumscription of the Dyckia remotiflora complex and present a taxonomic-nomenclatural revision for the included taxa: D. remotiflora var.

A new Dyckia species (Bromeliaceae, Pitcairnioideae) from the Brazilian Northeastern region
Phytotaxa, 2014A new species of Dyckia (Pitcairnioideae) is described and illustrated here. Dyckia piauiensis sp. nov. was found in the state of Piauí, in northern Brazil, in very dry Cerrado vegetation and cultivated by the first author. This new species’ closest relative is Dyckia pernambucana, but differs from it by its larger and retrorse spines, shorter ...
