Genus Pitho Bell, 1835 Type species. Pitho sexdentata Bell, 1835 [Type locality: Galapagos Islands]. Remarks. The genus Pitho, long placed in Tychinae (Epialtidae), is currently accepted in Mithracidae (Windsor & Felder 2014; Santana et al. 2016).

The geologically simultaneous appearance of numerous animal phyla at the base of the Cambrian was caused by an epidemic of Cambrian Explosion (CE) virus, a “phylagen” (as opposed to pathogen) that was able to infect and reconfigure metazoan morphogenetic fields and genomic kernels.
