Environmental suitability throughout the late quaternary explains population genetic diversity. [PDF]
Genetic variation among populations is reflected in biogeographic patterns for many species, but general rules of spatial genetic variation have not been established. In this paper, we establish a theoretical framework based on projecting environmental Grinellian niches back through time to relate the present geographic distribution of population ...

Acute, pro‐contractile effects of prorenin on rat mesenteric arteries
Schematic overview of prorenin‐dependent mechanisms leading to inhibition of the BKCa channel and enhanced vascular contractility (right panel). Prorenin binds to its receptor, a subunit of the V‐ATPase, increasing proton efflux from the smooth muscle cells. This will create local pH changes.

Abstract Two eclogite samples from the Haut‐Allier record a prograde evolution from ~20 kbar, 650°C to 750°C, 22–23 kbar followed by heating up to 850–875°C and partial melting. Incipient decompression in high‐pressure granulite facies conditions (19.5 kbar, 875°C) was followed by exhumation to high‐temperature amphibolite facies conditions (<9 kbar ...

Simon of Tournai's Stroke: The Image of an Irate Unbeliever
For centuries after his death in the late twelfth century, Simon of Tournai, a master of theology in the Parisian schools, had a reputation for being an unbeliever punished by God with a stroke. This article gathers the eight known medieval sources for his stroke and examines them from a mythogenetic perspective to demonstrate how different authors ...

Prograde zircon growth in migmatites
Abstract Empirical studies of zircon in migmatites document features compatible with growth during heating at suprasolidus conditions. However, numerical modelling of zircon behaviour suggests that suprasolidus zircon is expected to grow only during cooling and melt crystallization.

Abstract In this article the scholar, preacher and bishop Jacques de Vitry (d. 1240) is taken as a vantage point to look at the religious life of his time. He had personal involvement with the nascent university of Paris, the earliest beguines of the Low Countries, the crusades against heretics and Muslims, and the first friars.

We describe the genetic characteristics and dynamics, and the recent evolutionary history of the Canarian houbara bustard, an endemic to the Canary Islands. We identified high gene flow and two genetic units, with genetic bottlenecks and subsequent inbreeding in both of them, and propose potential management actions to avoid its extinction. Abstract An

Abstract Antlers are the most conspicuous trait of cervids and have been used in the past to establish a classification of their fossil and living representatives. Since the availability of molecular data, morphological characters have generally become less important for phylogenetic reconstructions.
