Ultrasound Corrosion Mapping on Hot Stainless Steel Surfaces

open access: yesMetals
This study investigates the application of Phased Array Corrosion Mapping (PACM) as a non-destructive testing (NDT) method for detecting and monitoring corrosion growth on hot stainless steel (SS) surfaces, specifically focusing on SS 304 and SS 316 ...

In Situ Diagnosis of a Gear-Tooth Surface Damage Using Laser Scattering

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2011
We propose herein an in situ method to remotely diagnose gear-tooth damage using scattering of a laser beam. The proposed method provides early and accurate diagnosis of the gear-tooth-surface condition.

Effect of Laser Surface Melting on Chromium Carbide of 304 Stainless Steels [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2018
In the present study, the effects of laser surface melting (LSM) on chromium carbide of heat treated (AISI 304) austenitic stainless steels (ASS) was studied with the aim to suppress sensitization of 304SS. Austenitic stainless steels were heated (aging)

Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability

Assessing the Corrosive Effects of Unmelted Particles in Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V: A Study in Simulated Body Fluid

open access: yesAlloys
This study investigates the corrosion behavior of Grade 23 Ti6Al4V alloys produced through laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) when exposed to simulated body fluid at room temperature, focusing on the role of unmelted particles.

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Tribological Performance of 60NiTi Alloy Under Varying Contact Conditions and Elevated Temperatures in Linear Reciprocating Sliding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the tribological response of 60NiTi alloy under dry, water‐lubricated and high‐temperature conditions. The alloy exhibits decreasing wear volume and friction with increasing temperature due to the formation of protective oxide layers. The work clarifies dominant wear mechanisms and demonstrates the suitability of 60NiTi for high‐

Corrosion Fatigue Analysis in Power Steam Turbine Blade

open access: yesMetals, 2023
The corrosion fatigue behavior of a martensitic stainless steel AISI 410 with 12% Cr, used in the fabrication of steam turbine blades at low pressure (L-P), was studied using the electrochemical noise technique (EN) under mechanical fatigue (immersion ...

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Nanoindentation Criteria for Combinatorial Thin Film Libraries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thin‐film material libraries are compositional spreads used for screening composition‐structure‐property relationships. Nanoindentation is often used to characterize mechanical behavior across these systems, however variations in methodology are widespread.
