Value of endoscopy for maximizing tumor removal in endonasal transsphenoidal pituitary adenoma surgery.

Journal of Neurosurgery, 2013
OBJECT Endoscopy as a visual aid (endoscope assisted) or as the sole visual method (fully endoscopic) is increasingly used in pituitary adenoma surgery.

The Pituitary Adenoma

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1981
When I first received this book, I expected another endocrinologically oriented work dealing with pituitary tumors. In the preface, however, the authors' stated aim is a "comprehensive review of current aspects [of] the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of pituitary adenomas...

Angiogenesis in pituitary adenomas

Microscopy Research and Technique, 2003
AbstractAngiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels from preexisting capillaries, plays an important role in tumor growth and metastasis. In this review, the focus is on angiogenesis in pituitary adenomas. Angiogenesis of pituitary adenomas has been assessed by studying tumor microvessel density using specific immunohistochemical markers ...

Galanin in pituitary adenomas

Regulatory Peptides, 2004
Tumor galanin content was measured in extracts from human pituitary adenomas using a specific RIA method for monitoring human galanin. Twenty-two out of twenty-four tumors contained galanin with notably high levels in corticotroph adenomas, varying levels in clinically inactive tumors, and low levels in GH secreting adenomas.

The immunophenotype of pituitary adenomas

Endocrine Pathology, 1996
Although the production of pituitary hormones by adenohypophysial tumors has been studied extensively, an examination of the immunophenotype of pituitary adenomas using a broad spectrum of antibodies has not been previously investigated. We studied 23 pituitary adenomas using a large panel of antibodies to determine if these tumors exhibited a common ...

MEN1 and pituitary adenomas

Annales d'Endocrinologie, 2012
MEN1 gene mutations predispose carriers to pituitary tumors. Molecular pathways involved in the development of these tumors seem different to what is known in sporadic tumors. Clinical studies showed that all types of adenomas can be found with a predominance of prolactinoma and macroadenoma compared to a control population. These MEN1 tumors seem more

Sphenoidal pituitary adenoma

Human Pathology, 1979
A 62 year old female died of a chromophobe pituitary adenoma of the sphenoid bone. A normal pituitary gland was present within the sella turcica. She also had a chief cell parathyroid adenoma, a papillary thyroid carcinoma, and an ovarian thecoma (multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome).

Autophagy and Pituitary Adenoma

2020
Pituitary adenomas (PAs) are common, benign intracranial tumors that are usually effectively controlled with surgery, pharmacotherapy or radiotherapy. Some PAs against which conventional treatment is ineffective are great clinical challenges at present. Autophagy is a widespread physiological process in cells.

Pathology of Pituitary Adenomas

2015
A new pituitary classification has been developed, based on the histologic, histochemical, immunocytologic and electron microscopic investigation of 207 pituitary adenomas removed surgically from male and female patients of various ages and different clinical symptomatology. Based principally on cytogenesis, the classification attempts to correlate the
