Metabolic effects of two peptides from the anterior pituitary gland.
Endocrinology, 1962Two substances, peptides I and II, isolated from a crude extract obtained from the anterior pituitary glands of hogs, had a potent effect on lipid metabolism in rabbits; as little as .02 μg added to leporine adipose tissue in vitro stimulated the release

Sex Differences in the Anterior Pituitary Gland
1985This chapter will review many of the sex differences we and other investigators have observed on the morphology and physiology of the anterior pituitary gland of the laboratory rat. Occasionally similarities and differences in other species are mentioned. When known, the age of onset and the underlying mechanisms of the sex differences are discussed.

The kinetic and equilibrium parameters of the binding of free estrogen to cytosol receptors in the rat anterior pituitary gland were investigated as well as the influences of sex and endogenous estrogen levels upon this system. Both binding sites and the

Hypothalamus: Anterior Pituitary Gland
1971Prior to 1940 very few definitive studies were done concerning the effects of narcotic analgesics on endocrine function. In general most of the early reports dealt with either the toxicity of morphine following extirpation or administration of endocrine tissue or morphological changes in endocrine organs after administration of the drug. These data are

Studies on the fat-mobilizing factor of the anterior pituitary gland.
Endocrinology, 1949On the bases of chemical and physiological evidence there has been general acceptance of six well-defined anterior pituitary hormones: growth hormone, thyrotrophin, corticotrophin, luteotrophin (lactogenic hormone), follicle-stimulating hormone, and ...

CONTROL OF PROTEIN SYNTHESIS IN ANTERIOR PITUITARY GLAND
Acta Endocrinologica, 1973ABSTRACT Chronic administration (6 days) of LH-RH to adenohypophyseal cells in monolayer culture leads to a 4-fold increase of the total content (cells plus medium) of radioimmunoassayable LH. A 75 % increase was observed at an initial concentration of 1 × 10−10 M LH-RH while a progressive increase to 300 % over control was measured at a ...

Coated vesicles in the rat anterior pituitary gland
Acta Histochemica, 1978Ultrastructural documentation of the formation of coated vesicles in prolactin cells of the rat anterior pituitary gland is presented. Coated vesicles were observed forming from the secretory granular membrane in the Golgi area and between the Golgi complex and the plasmalemma. They were also found budding off the membrane lining the exocytotic pocket.

Available high-affinity binding sites for 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) were measured in cytosols obtained from the amygdala, hypothalamus, anterior pituitary gland and ventral prostate gland of 12-week-old rats at various times after orchidectomy ...

Discovery of the luteinizing hormone of the anterior pituitary gland
American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2004This essay looks at the historical significance of an APS classic paper that is freely available online: Fevold HL, Hisaw FL, Leonard SL. The gonad stimulating and the luteinizing hormones of the anterior lobe of the hypophesis. Am J Physiol 97: 291—301, 1931 ( http://ajplegacy.physiology.org/cgi/reprint/97/2/291 ).

Electron microscopic observations of the anterior pituitary gland
Tissue and Cell, 2008Since [Westlud, K.N., Chils, G.V., 1982. Localization of serotonin fibers in the rat adenohypophysis. Endocrinology 111, 1761-1763] initially identified the serotonin nerve fibers in the anterior pituitary gland, attention has been paid to the rostral zone of the anterior lobe into which nerve fibers enter and subsequently spread to deeper regions of ...
