Ectopic Pituitary Adenomas with Normal Anterior Pituitary Glands
The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 1986Two patients with ectopic pituitary adenomas and biopsy-proven normal anterior pituitaries are described. Both tumors were located in the sphenoid sinus. One tumor produced prolactin, and the other one was a plurihormonal adenoma that produced predominantly adrenocorticotropin and to a lesser extent thyroid stimulating hormone and alpha subunit.

Bioassay of Sheep Anterior Pituitary Glands
Nature, 1959A HIGHLY significant seasonal variation in frequency of twin ovulations in Merino ewes was observed by Radford1. In order to determine whether this was correlated with seasonal variation in pituitary gonadotrophin content the surviving ewes from Radford's experiment were later killed—16 in mid-summer (January–February 1958) and 11 in mid-winter (June ...

Neurotensin in the rat anterior pituitary gland
Nature, 1982Neurotensin, a basic peptide consisting of 13 amino acids, was originally isolated from bovine hypothalamus1 and subsequently from human and bovine intestine2,3. Radioimmunoassay and immunocytochemical studies have demonstrated that neurotensin-like immunoreactivity (NTLI) is distributed throughout the mammalian central nervous system (CNS)4,5 and the ...

The anterior pituitary gland: Lessons from livestock
Domestic Animal Endocrinology, 2005There has been extensive research of the anterior pituitary gland of livestock and poultry due to the economic (agricultural) importance of physiological processes controlled by it including reproduction, growth, lactation and stress. Moreover, farm animals can be biomedical models or useful in evolutionary/ecological research.
