Functional grafts of the anterior pituitary gland
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B - Biological Sciences, 1952A study has been made of pituitary grafts placed into hypophysectomized adult rats under the median eminence of the tuber cinereum, under the temporal lobe of the brain and into the hypophysial capsule. Good union was obtained in all three sites, the grafts becoming richly vascularized and remaining viable for long periods.

Arterial Supply of the Human Anterior Pituitary Gland
Neurosurgery, 1987The vascular anatomy of the anterior lobe (AL) of 182 previously injected human pituitary glands was examined. Three different techniques of injection using India ink and acrylic paints were performed to establish a direct arterial supply to the AL. In 81% of the cases, end-arteries were found in the AL.

Anterior Pituitary — Six Glands and One
New England Journal of Medicine, 1972Though anatomically associated in a single structure, the anterior pituitary is made up of at least six different secretory types of cells, all capable of functioning independently of one another.

The anterior pituitary gland (adenohypophysis) influences a variety of biologic processes through the secretion and release of polypeptide and glycoprotein hormones (Harris and Donovan, 1966; McCann and Porter, 1969). Body growth is regulated through the synthesis and release of growth hormone (somatotropic hormone, STH), while the structure and ...

Hypothalamus: Anterior Pituitary Gland
1971Prior to 1940 very few definitive studies were done concerning the effects of narcotic analgesics on endocrine function. In general most of the early reports dealt with either the toxicity of morphine following extirpation or administration of endocrine tissue or morphological changes in endocrine organs after administration of the drug. These data are

Double tumors of anterior and posterior pituitary gland
Acta Neuropathologica, 1981Double tumors were found in the anterior and posterior lobes of pituitary gland at autopsy in a patient who presented with progressive deterioration of mental status. The chromophobe adenoma of anterior lobe consisted of a mixture of non-immunoreactive hormone containing cells and a few prolactin (PRL) and growth hormone (GH) cells in the mid portion ...

Acetylcholine Receptors in the Rat Anterior Pituitary Gland*
Endocrinology, 1980The muscarinic antagonist [3H]quinuclidinyl benzilate (QNB) was used to study muscarinic cholinergic binding sites in a crude membrane fraction prepared from the rat anterior pituitary gland. Specific [3H]QNB binding is saturable with a Kd of 16 pM and a receptor concentration of 46 fmol/mg protein.

Preparation of polysomes from bovine anterior pituitary gland
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1968Abstract A simple method for the isolation of polysomes from the anterior pituitary is described. The isolation is performed in the presence of a 200 000 × g max . cell supernatant which contains an inhibitor of nucleases. The polysomes are active in the incorporation of amino acids into proteins. Electron microscope studies indicated that they are

CONTROL OF PROTEIN SYNTHESIS IN ANTERIOR PITUITARY GLAND
Acta Endocrinologica, 1973ABSTRACT Chronic administration (6 days) of LH-RH to adenohypophyseal cells in monolayer culture leads to a 4-fold increase of the total content (cells plus medium) of radioimmunoassayable LH. A 75 % increase was observed at an initial concentration of 1 × 10−10 M LH-RH while a progressive increase to 300 % over control was measured at a ...

Coated vesicles in the rat anterior pituitary gland
Acta Histochemica, 1978Ultrastructural documentation of the formation of coated vesicles in prolactin cells of the rat anterior pituitary gland is presented. Coated vesicles were observed forming from the secretory granular membrane in the Golgi area and between the Golgi complex and the plasmalemma. They were also found budding off the membrane lining the exocytotic pocket.
