Physiology of cold tolerance in the bark beetle, Pityogenes chalcographus and its overwintering in spruce stands.

Journal of Insect Physiology, 2014
The seasonal development of physiological features underlying gradual acquisition of relatively high cold tolerance in overwintering adults of the bark beetles, Pityogenes chalcographus was described. Prior to overwintering, the beetles accumulated carbohydrate reserves in the form of glycogen and trehalose.

Differences in bark beetle (Ips typographus and Pityogenes chalcographus) abundance in a strict spruce reserve and the surrounding spruce forests of Serbia

open access: yesPhytoparasitica, 2010
Frequent windthrow in the strict reserves of spruce in the Kopaonik National Park provides much material favorable for the development of Ips typographus (L.) and Pityogenes chalcographus (L.) (Coleoptera, Scolytidae). Therefore it was assumed that the abundance of these bark beetles in the reserves was high and that they dispersed to the surrounding ...

Felling date affects the occurrence of Pityogenes chalcographus on Scots pine logging residues

Agricultural and Forest Entomology, 2012
Logging residues form a substantial portion of the dead wood in managed forests, and logging residues can facilitate bark beetle multiplication and outbreaks. For these reasons, it is highly advisable to find a way of reducing the risk of bark beetle outbreaks without extensive ...

Monitoring of Ips typographus and Pityogenes chalcographus: influence of trapping site and surrounding landscape on catches

open access: yes, 2013
1 The influence of trapping site (i.e. fresh clear-cuts) characteristics and habitat amount (i.e. area of stands that may hold breeding material) in the surrounding landscape on catches of the bark beetles Ips typographus (L.) and Pityogenes ...
