Barkbillene P. chalcographus, P. poligraphus og T. piniperda er vanlig å finne assosiert med ophiostomatoide sopper i Norden og Europa. Ved hjelp av disse soppene er de i stand til å drepe levende trær, og soppene kan misfarge veden i tømmer som blir angrepet. Barkbiller kan også være assosiert med andre ulike sopper.
