An ll-year-old girl noticed several asymptomatic spots on her abdomen. The eruption spread to the remainder of her trunk and proximal extremities during the next 3 weeks. Physical examination revealed multiple, nonscaling petechiae and ecchymoses oriented along Langer's lines on the neck, trunk, and proximal extremities.

P ityriasis rosea is an acute inflammatory skin disorder characterized by papulosquamous skin lesions that appear on the trunk and extremities. The disease affects children and adults, involving slightly more females than males [1]. Pityriasis rosea is known to complicate viral infections, especially human herpes virus type 7 (HHV-7) [2].

ABSTRACT: Some immunologic studies were carried out for 31 patients with pityriasis rosea. Normal levels of serum IgG and IgA but higher levels of IgM were obtained. Serum C3 values were decreased while C4 values were normal. B lymphocytes showed no difference from the controls, whereas T‐cell counts were significantly lower in the patients.
