Instrumental Variable Interpretation of Cointegration with Inference Results for Fractional Cointegration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In this paper we propose an alternative characterization of the central notion of cointegration, exploiting the relationship between the autocovariance and the cross-covariance functions of the series.

System Design Considerations for Magneto‐Electrocatalysis of the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Electrocatalytic water‐splitting can be controlled using a magnetic field. The commercial prospects are exciting, but the progress is stuck in the fundamental stage of research. Progress is stagnated by publications with conflicting results, incomplete analysis, and inconsistent experimental setups.

Treatment of biodiesel wastewater using ferric chloride and ferric sulfate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The production of biodiesel through the transesterification method produces a large amount of wastewater that contains high level of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and oil and grease. In this study, coagulation was adopted to treat the biodiesel wastewater.

Two‐Photon Microbubble Printing: Asymmetric Assembly for Continuous Laser Writing

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Two‐photon microbubble printing is reported that combines nonlinear photochemistry with thermally driven fluid dynamics. At the laser focus, a distorted vapor bubble induce a strong rear‐to‐front convective flow. By enabling asymmetric assembly, this method allows the continuous formation of nanoparticle aggregates from a wide variety of materials ...

Quantifying stretching and rearrangement in epithelial sheet migration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Although understanding the collective migration of cells, such as that seen in epithelial sheets, is essential for understanding diseases such as metastatic cancer, this motion is not yet as well characterized as individual cell migration.

Error propagation dynamics of PIV-based pressure field calculations: How well does the pressure Poisson solver perform inherently? [PDF]

open access: yesMeasurement science and technology, 2016
Obtaining pressure field data from particle image velocimetry (PIV) is an attractive technique in fluid dynamics due to its noninvasive nature. The application of this technique generally involves integrating the pressure gradient or solving the pressure

Navigating Gravity: Competing Effects Result in Opposing Taxis for Different Janus Swimmers

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The combined effects of gravity and wall‐induced hydrodynamics on the motion of Janus colloids are investigated. Platinum‐ and copper‐coated silica microswimmers show distinct gravitactic alignment near surfaces due to different hydrodynamic couplings. This distinct gravitactic behavior enables separation of initially mixed active particles.

Effect of radial curvature on the internal flow and performance of the vaned diffuser for a compact centrifugal blower

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2014
Compact centrifugal blowers with vaned diffusers are often used in home electric vacuum cleaners. To achieve high efficiency and low noise, it is important to improve the performance of impellers and diffusers.

Aligning Real‐Time Recurrence Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations with Plant Data for the Ruhrstahl–Heraeus Degassing Process of Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Uncertainties exist in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of complex metallurgical processes, even when partly validated by laboratory experiments. rCFD enables computationally efficient prediction of long‐term RH degassing and can be adapted to vary flow conditions.

Complex oscillator and Painlev\'e IV equation

open access: yes, 2015
Supersymmetric quantum mechanics is a powerful tool for generating exactly solvable potentials departing from a given initial one. In this article the first- and second- order supersymmetric transformations will be used to obtain new exactly solvable ...
