Rhythm Beyond the Cinematic Medium/The Pixel Beyond the Movie Theatre
In The Affect Theory Reader, Gregory J. Seigworth and Melissa Gregg write about Roland Barthes’s splendid notion of ‘shimmer’: an ‘exhaustively nuanced space’ that may be inventoried as patho-logies (by which to contemplate pathos) of bodies (human and ...

Detection of Secondary Microplastics in an Aquatic Mesocosm by Means of Object-Based Image Analysis
When plastics are discarded, they do not biodegrade and instead break down over time into progressively smaller particles, termed secondary microplastics, which adversely impact biota and human health as well as persist in the environment for centuries ...

Advanced Neighborhood Operation Based Image Zooming In [PDF]
Perhaps the most interesting feature of digitally encoded image data is that the image can be analytically manipulated. An entire field of computer graphics, named image processing, has emerged as a result of this capability. Once the data is numerically

Single pixel imaging at high pixel resolutions
The usually reported pixel resolution of single pixel imaging (SPI) varies between 32 × 32 and 256 × 256 pixels falling far below imaging standards with classical methods. Low resolution results from the trade-off between the acceptable compression ratio, the limited DMD modulation frequency, and reasonable reconstruction time, and has not improved ...

Depth discontinuities by pixel-to-pixel stereo [PDF]
An algorithm to detect depth discontinuities from a stereo pair of images is presented. The algorithm matches individual pixels in corresponding scanline pairs while allowing occluded pixels to remain unmatched, then propagates the information between scanlines by means of a fast postprocessor.

The pixel and the technique of pixelating faces belong to a politics of fear and a digital aesthetics of truth that shapes public perceptions of criminality and the threat of otherness. This article draws on Paul Virilio’s account of the pixel in The Lost Dimension to analyze its specific role and operation in relation to contemporary representations ...
