Reducing metal artifacts by restricting negative pixels

open access: yesVisual Computing for Industry, Biomedicine, and Art, 2021
When the object contains metals, its x-ray computed tomography (CT) images are normally affected by streaking artifacts. These artifacts are mainly caused by the x-ray beam hardening effects, which deviate the measurements from their true values.

Custom transistor layout design techniques for random telegraph signal noise reduction in CMOS image sensors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Interface and near oxide traps in small gate area MOS transistors (gate area ,1 mm2) lead to RTS noise which implies the emergence of noisy pixels in CMOS image sensors.

From Pixels to Objects: Cubic Visual Attention for Visual Question Answering [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2018
Recently, attention-based Visual Question Answering (VQA) has achieved great success by utilizing question to selectively target different visual areas that are related to the answer. Existing visual attention models are generally planar, i.e., different

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

The application of photogrammetric numerical methods to the analysis of magnetic resonance images

open access: yesGeodesy and Cartography, 2012
Research on the identification possibilities and accuracy of digital images applying the theory of covariations functions is presented. The digital magnetic resonance images are processed by Matlab 7 computer program. The digital magnetic resonance image

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Adding Lines Along Pixels: Remote Sensing, Traditional Knowledge and Human–Fire Interactions in Ethiopia and India

open access: yesGeo: Geography and Environment
This study critically examines the limitations of satellite remote sensing (SRS) in capturing the complexities of human–fire interactions. It proposes a relational approach grounded in the embodied, place‐based knowledge of communities living with fire ...

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.
