The Nanjing Massacre refers to an atrocity that took place from 13 December 1937 until the end of January 1938 in Nanking (now Nanjing), the then capital of the Republic of China (1912-49). Arguably up to 300, 000 Chinese civilians and military personnel were systematically massacred by Imperial Japanese soldiers during these six weeks.
