Germline variants in CDKN2A wild‐type melanoma prone families

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Among melanoma‐prone families, wild‐type for CDKN2A and CDK4, some have pathogenic variants in genes not usually linked to melanoma. Furthermore, rare XP‐related variants and variants in MC1R are enriched in such families. Germline pathogenic variants in CDKN2A are well established as an underlying cause of familial malignant melanoma. While pathogenic

The hidden universality of movement in cities [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The interaction of all mobile species with their environment hinges on their movement patterns: the places they visit and how frequently they go there. In human society, where the prevalent form of cohabitation is in cities, the highly dynamic and diverse movement of people is fundamental to almost every aspect of socio-economic life, including social ...

Measuring pitch extractors' response to frequency-modulated multi-component signals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
This article focuses on the research tool for investigating the fundamental frequencies of voiced sounds. We introduce an objective and informative measurement method of pitch extractors' response to frequency-modulated tones. The method uses a new test signal for acoustic system analysis.

Commuting Network Spillovers and COVID-19 Deaths Across US Counties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This study explored how population mobility flows form commuting networks across US counties and influence the spread of COVID-19. We utilized 3-level mixed effects negative binomial regression models to estimate the impact of network COVID-19 exposure on county confirmed cases and deaths over time.

The geographic pattern of distribution of the genus \u3cem\u3eRhopalurus\u3c/em\u3e Thorell, 1876 in the Guayana-Amazon region (Scorpiones: Buthidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A new discussion is proposed on the geographic patterns of distribution presented by the species of the genus Rhopalurus Thorell, inhabiting the savannah formations of the northern South America.

Climate Change Impacts on Droughts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This study makes use of the most current General Circulation Models (GCMs) forced with CMIP5 climate projections to quantify the projected changes in intra-annual drought characteristics for South–Central America during the next century at a fine gridded

Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Hate Me Not: Detecting Hate Inducing Memes in Code Switched Languages [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
The rise in the number of social media users has led to an increase in the hateful content posted online. In countries like India, where multiple languages are spoken, these abhorrent posts are from an unusual blend of code-switched languages. This hate speech is depicted with the help of images to form "Memes" which create a long-lasting impact on the
