Addressing dependent amphetamine use: a place for prescription
Drug and Alcohol Review, 1996AbstractAmphetamines are among the most widely used of illicit drugs in Australia, and evidence documenting the occurrence of amphetamine‐related harms, particularly among chronic regular users, is increasing, A review of contemporary Australian treatment approaches suggests that conventional modalities are unlikely to address the needs of a large ...

Fast in-place verification of data dependencies
IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, 1993Several fast and space-optimal sequential and parallel algorithms for solving the satisfaction problem of functional and multivalued dependencies (FDs and MVDs) are presented. Two frameworks to verify an MVD for a relation and their implementation by exploring the existing fast space-optimal sorting techniques are described.

Place, Politics and ‘Scale Dependence’
European Urban and Regional Studies, 1999In analyzing the contemporary ‘recomposition of political space’ some researchers are drawing an inference between a putative ‘hollowing out’ of the state or ‘multi-level’ governance, and the growth of integrated economic development programmes enacted through closer articulation between local and regional political coalitions and the European ...

Density dependence at some time and place?
Oecologia, 2000There appears to be widespread acceptance that for a population to persist, some demographic parameter must be density dependent at some place or time. In this paper, we question the veracity and heuristic value of treating this statement as a general principle of ecology. We also point out that some processes that have recently been defined as density

The place of gold in the cross-market dependencies
Studies in Nonlinear Dynamics & Econometrics, 2016Abstract This paper investigates the inter-relationships between the gold price on the one hand, other precious metals (e.g. silver, palladium, platinum) and asset markets (e.g. stocks, bonds, crude oil) on the other hand. The econometric methodology relies on the Markov-switching BEKK model by Haas and Mittnik (2008) that captures ...

On Iterated Function Systems with place-dependent probabilities
Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 2014The author studies a family of invariant measures of parameterized iterated function systems where the corresponding probabilities are place-dependent. The goal of the paper is to determine the Hausdorff dimension of place-dependent invariant measures and to give a sufficient condition for their absolute continuity w.r.t.\ the Lebesgue measure.

When a place is not a place: encoding of spatial information is dependent on reward type
Behaviour, 2010AbstractThe adaptationist perspective investigates how an animal's cognition has been shaped by the informational properties of the environment. The information that is useful may vary from one context to another. In the current study we examine how manipulating the foraging context (the type of resource being foraged) could affect the way spatial ...
