Morphology and physiology of rat placenta for toxicological evaluation

open access: yesJournal of Toxicologic Pathology, 2018
The placenta plays a pivotal role in fetal growth, and placental dysfunction and injury are associated with embryo/fetal toxicity. Histological examination of the rat placenta for safety evaluation provides valuable clues to the mechanisms of this ...

Laeverin is Cell‐Surface Target for Liquid‐Phase Metastasizing Cancer Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study revealed that epithelial cancer cells in the floating phase induce the expression of laeverin (LVRN) that is a trophoblast‐specific and cell‐surface immunoregulatory factor and showed that anti‐LVRN ADC is a promising agent that can attack cancer cells in the metastatic liquid phase and block further distant metastasis.

Neutralizing Monoclonal Antibodies Reduce Human Cytomegalovirus Infection and Spread in Developing Placentas. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Congenital human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection is a leading cause of birth defects worldwide, yet the most effective strategies for preventing virus transmission during pregnancy are unknown.

Establishment and differentiation of long-term trophoblast organoid cultures from the human placenta

open access: yesNature Protocols, 2018
The human placenta is essential for successful reproduction. There is great variation in the anatomy and development of the placenta in different species, meaning that animal models provide limited information about human placental development and ...

Chronic PET‐Microplastic Exposure: Disruption of Gut–Liver Homeostasis and Risk of Hepatic Steatosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic exposure to environmentally relevant PET microplastics disrupts gut–liver homeostasis, leading to hepatic steatosis, early fibrosis, and altered gut microbiota. These effects signal metabolic imbalance and gut–liver axis impairment, emphasizing chronic microplastic ingestion as an emerging environmental health risk linked to non‐communicable ...

Development of the Human Placenta and Fetal Heart: Synergic or Independent?

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
The placenta is the largest fetal organ, and toward the end of pregnancy the umbilical circulation receives at least 40% of the biventricular cardiac output.

The Gut Microbiota Regulates Motor Deficits via Butyrate in a Gnal+/− Mouse Model of DYT25 Dystonia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The present study provides compelling evidence for a modulatory role of the gut microbiota in the pathology of DYT25 dystonia, and butyrate supplementation alleviates the motor deficits of dystonia in Gnal+/− mice. Abstract Dystonia is the third most common movement disorder, following essential tremor and Parkinson's disease. The underlying mechanisms

Effectiveness of Multivitamins vs Folic Acid on Prevention of Neural Tube Defects in Mouse Genetic Models and Human Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Folic acid (FA) and multivitamins/minerals (MVM) are recommended for the prevention of neural tube defects (NTDs). Using a novel human neural tube‐like organoid system and mouse models, the study compares the effectiveness of two supplements on NTDs and cellular behaviors.
