In Utero Imaging of the Placenta: Importance for Diseases of Pregnancy

Although to researchers the importance of the placenta is evident, in clinical obstetrical imaging, the fetus takes precedence. The placenta is imaged almost as an after thought and mostly to determine its location in the uterus.

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1990Involvement of the placenta by glycosphingolipid deposits in Fabry's disease has not been previously reported. We describe the presence of such deposits in the maternal half of a placenta obtained from a heterozygous carrier of the disease.
