The style and degree of cranial vault modification (CVM) can have a significant impact on the reliability of assigning crania into operational categories and correlates. These issues can, in turn, influence the interpretation of cultural practices in the archaeological record.

Determinants of Nonsynostotic Plagiocephaly: A Case-Control Study
Pediatrics, 2003Objective. There has been a large increase in reported cases of nonsynostotic plagiocephaly in infants since the adoption of supine sleeping recommendations to prevent sudden infant death syndrome. The objective of this study was to identify and quantify the determinants of nonsynostotic plagiocephaly in infants. Methods.

Objective This study aimed to compare the efficacy of osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMTh) versus light touch therapy (LTT) in reducing cranial asymmetries in infants with nonsynostotic plagiocephaly (NSP). Study Design A prospective, parallel-group, single-center, LTT-controlled randomized clinical trial was conducted in ...

Helmet Versus Nonhelmet Treatment in Nonsynostotic Positional Posterior Plagiocephaly
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2000A total of 105 infants with nonsynostotic posterior plagiocephaly were treated using a helmet or by head positioning. Effect of treatment was scored using a cosmetic outcome score (0-10 points) assigned by the parents. The onset of the observed skull deformity correction was not different for the helmet vs. nonhelmet treatment.

Nonsynostotic Occipital Plagiocephaly: Radiographic Diagnosis of the ???Sticky Suture???
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2005While the clinical differences between nonsynostotic occipital plagiocephaly and lambdoid craniosynostosis have been described, the radiographic differentiation between the two remains obscure. The aim of this study was to characterize morphological differences in the lambdoid suture between nonsynostotic occipital plagiocephaly and lambdoid ...

Nonsynostotic Occipital Plagiocephaly: Factors Impacting Onset, Treatment, and Outcomes
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2007Nonsynostotic occipital plagiocephaly remains a diagnosis of concern in infancy. This study evaluates factors affecting the onset, treatment, and outcomes of nonsynostotic occipital plagiocephaly.A retrospective chart review and telephone survey were performed. A posterior occipital deformation severity score was used.

Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice, 2011
To document the evolution of cranial asymmetries in infants with signs of nonsynostotic occipital plagiocephaly (NSOP) who were to undergo a course of four osteopathic treatments (in addition to the standard positioning recommendations) as well as to determine the feasibility of using this methodology to conduct a randomized clinical trial ...

Effectiveness of Cranial Remolding Orthosis in Treatment of Nonsynostotic Plagiocephaly
JPO Journal of Prosthetics and OrthoticsABSTRACT Introduction The prevalence of cranial deformities, including nonsynostotic plagiocephaly, has been increasing, especially since the “Back to Sleep” campaign. Treatment of these deformities can use a cranial remolding orthosis or helmet.

Despite growing evidence regarding nonsynostotic plagiocephaly and their repercussions on motor development, there is little evidence to support the use of manual therapy as an adjuvant option. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a therapeutic approach based on manual therapy as an adjuvant option on treatment duration and motor ...

Journal of Pediatric Nursing, 2011
The aim of the study is to test effectiveness of guidelines for nurses that can be incorporated into the child health care program to prevent nonsynostotic plagiocephaly (NSP) in infants while still following sudden infant death syndrome-preventive recommendations. When guidelines were followed as intended in a Swedish pilot study, only 8.5% of infants
