Genetic divergence among invasive and native populations ofPlagioscion squamosissimus(Perciformes, Sciaenidae) in Neotropical regions

Journal of Fish Biology, 2012
The genetic divergence among invasive and native populations ofPlagioscion squamosissimusfrom four Neotropical hydrographic basins was assessed using the hypervariable domain of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region.Plagioscion squamosissimusis native to the neighbouring hydrographic basins of the Parnaíba and Amazon Rivers, and the latter ...

Summary A comparative growth analysis of two sciaenid species (Plagioscion squamosissimus Heckel and Plagioscion monti Soares) in different water types of the Central Amazon The growth of two sciaenid species P. squamosissimus and P. monti was comparatively described in black and white water of the Amazon by determining the age by means of ...

Metazoan parasites of Plagioscion squamosissimus (Osteichthyes: Sciaenidae) of two rivers from the eastern Amazon (Brazil).

Annals of parasitology, 2020
Plagioscion squamosissimus, commonly known as "white hake" or "corvina", is among the most commercially important fish in the Amazon and host to a great diversity of endoparasites. The aim of the present study was to compare the communities and infracommunities of metazoan parasites that infect P. squamosissimus in two rivers from the eastern Brazilian

The ultrastructure of the pre-meiotic and meiotic stages of spermatogenesis in Plagioscion squamosissimus (Teleostei, Perciformes, Sciaenidae).

Journal of submicroscopic cytology and pathology, 2002
Spermatogenesis of 'corvina' P. squamosissimus starts from a stem cell that gives rise to germ cells. These cells are enveloped by Sertoli cells, forming cysts. The germ cells in the cysts are all at the same stage of development and are interconnected by cytoplasmic bridges. Spermatogonia are the largest germ cells.

Relationship of the parasite Rhadinorhynchus plagioscionis (Acanthocephala) with Plagioscion squamosissimus host and its specificity of occurrence in the Brazilian Amazon.

Annals of parasitology, 2022
Objective was the relationship of the parasite Rhadinorhynchus plagioscionis with its host Plagioscion squamosissimus, providing morphological and morphometric data to prove the specificity of this parasite with its host, with reports occurring only in rivers in the Brazilian Amazon. Rhadinorhynchus plagioscionis infected P.

Crecimiento de la curvinata de río, Plagioscion squamosissimus, en el Orinoco medio

2005
A study of the growth of Plagioscion squamosissimus was made in the middle Orinoco region in Venezuela, through analyses of the size frequencies and the reading of the growth rings in the otoliths. The samplings were carried out in the main channel and in one of the flooded lagoons near the river, using a net of 10 cm of mesh opening and of known ...
