We introduce a notion of planar algebra, the simplest example of which is a vector space of tensors, closed under planar contractions. A planar algebra with suitable positivity properties produces a finite index subfactor of a II_1 factor, and vice versa.

Simple and Direct Proof of MacLane's Planarity Criterion [PDF]
We give a simple proof of MacLane's algebraic planarity criterion for graphs. This proof does not use any other known planarity criteria. Keywords: graph, planarity, cycle space, a simple basis of a graph.

Recognizing IC-Planar and NIC-Planar Graphs
We prove that triangulated IC-planar graphs and triangulated $K_5$-free or $X4W$-free NIC-planar graphs can be recognized in cubic time. A graph is 1-planar if it can be drawn in the plane with at most one crossing per edge. A drawing is IC-planar if, in addition, each vertex is incident to at most one crossing edge and NIC-planar if two pairs of ...

From subfactor planar algebras to subfactors [PDF]
We present a purely planar algebraic proof of the main result of a paper of Guionnet-Jones-Shlaykhtenko which constructs an extremal subfactor from a subfactor planar algebra whose standard invariant is given by that planar algebra.

Planar-integrated single-crystalline perovskite photodetectors
Hybrid perovskites are promising semiconductors for optoelectronic applications. However, they suffer from morphological disorder that limits their optoelectronic properties and, ultimately, device performance.

Domino tilings of finite domains of the plane are used to model dimer systems in statistical physics. In this paper, we study dimer tilings, which generalize domino tilings and are indeed equivalent to perfect matchings of planar graphs. We use height functions, a notion previously introduced by Thurston for domino tilings, to prove that a dimer tiling

Summary In this contribution, we propose a detailed study of interpolation‐based data‐driven methods that are of relevance in the model reduction and also in the systems and control communities. The data are given by samples of the transfer function of the underlying (unknown) model, that is, we analyze frequency‐response data.

The body diode degradation in SiC power MOSFETs has been demonstrated to be caused by basal plane dislocation (BPD)-induced stacking faults (SFs) in the drift region.

Planar complex numbers in even n dimensions [PDF]
Planar commutative n-complex numbers of the form u=x_0+h_1x_1+h_2x_2+...+h_{n-1}x_{n-1} are introduced in an even number n of dimensions, the variables x_0,...,x_{n-1} being real numbers. The planar n-complex numbers can be described by the modulus d, by the amplitude \rho, by n/2 azimuthal angles \phi_k, and by n/2-1 planar angles \psi_{k-1}.

Planar Luneburg Lens Based on the High Impedance Surface for Effective Ku-Band Wave Focusing
In this paper, a planar Ku-band Luneburg lens is designed, fabricated, and measured. Based on the high impedance surface, metamaterial units are designed and arranged in an array with gradient equivalent refractive index to achieve good wave focusing ...
