Advances in planar lightwave circuits

OFC/NFOEC Technical Digest. Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2005., 2005
Advances in silica-on-silicon planar lightwave circuit (PLC) technology are enabling a higher level of integration for reconfigurable add/drop multiplexers. Newer integrated optics materials systems offer important advantages in cost and performance.

Planar circuits have short specifications

2005
A counting argument is used to establish a lower bound of Ω(2n) on the planar circuit size of almost all n-argument Boolean functions. The counting argument exploits the fact that planar circuits can be more concisely specified than general circuits.

High frequency electrical circuits on a planar lightwave circuit platform

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1996
We investigated the propagation losses and the characteristic impedances Z/sub L/ of coplanar waveguides (CPWs) and microstrip lines (MSLs) on a planar lightwave circuit (PLC)-platform formed on a silica/silicon substrate. The loss of the CPWs was 2.7 dB/cm at 10 GHz on the PLC-platform with 30 /spl mu/m thick silica layer.

Analysis of strip‐line circuit based on planar circuit model and planar circuit equations (invited review article)

International Journal of Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Computer-Aided Engineering, 1993
AbstractStrip‐line circuits at relatively higher frequencies can be considered as two‐dimensionally extended circuits rather than one‐dimensional transmission‐line circuits. Hence, the stripline circuit can be modeled as a parallel‐plate planar circuit.

On rings of circuits in planar graphs

1977
The terminology and notation of this paper will follow [1]. In that paper, it was conjectured that a graph is planar if and only if it has no maximal, odd ring of circuits. In fact, it was shown that every non-planar graph has such a ring, so that it remains only to demonstrate the non-existence of such rings in planar graphs.

Optical signal processing with planar lightwave circuits

2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA), 2012
We present a summary of our recent work on using lattice-form Mach-Zehnder interferometers implemented using silica-based planar lightwave circuit technology for optical signal processing. In particular, we demonstrate that the same device structure (either based on 6 taps or 12 taps) can be used to perform various signal processing functions ranging ...

Planar Lightwave Circuits (PLCs)

1997
Planar lightwave circuits (PLCs) provide various important devices for optical WDM, TDM systems, subscriber networks and etc. This paper reviews the recent progress and future prospects of PLC technologies including arrayed-waveguide grating multiplexers, optical add/drop multiplexers, programmable dispersion equalizers and hybrid optoelectronics ...

Short-Boundary Planar Circuits

1985
A short-boundary planar circuit is essentially a thin waveguide circuit in which no transverse electric field exists. Circuits of this category require a mathematical formulation a little different from that of the open-boundary planar circuits because of the Dirichlet-type boundary condition and different input/output structures.

Hybrid circuits on planar Germanium

The new era of Ge has opened up new possibilities in quantum computing. The maturity of Ge spin qubits is unquestioned, while hybrid semiconductor-superconductor Ge circuits are on track to enter the game. Gate-tunable transmons (gatemons) employing semiconductor Josephson junctions have recently emerged as building blocks for such hybrid quantum ...
