Unbiased Finite Element Mesh Delaunay Constrained Triangulation Applied to 2D Images with High Morphological Complexity Using Mathematical Morphology Tools Part 2: Labeled Images

open access: yesComputation
We propose a method for generating a constrained Delaunay triangulation CDT applied to labeled 2D images with high morphological complexity. In the previous paper, Part 1, we established an unbiased planar straight-line graph (PLSG) on image objects of ...

Obstacle Numbers of Planar Graphs

open access: yes, 2017
Given finitely many connected polygonal obstacles $O_1,\dots,O_k$ in the plane and a set $P$ of points in general position and not in any obstacle, the {\em visibility graph} of $P$ with obstacles $O_1,\dots,O_k$ is the (geometric) graph with vertex set $

Drawing graphs with vertices and edges in convex position [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A graph has strong convex dimension $2$, if it admits a straight-line drawing in the plane such that its vertices are in convex position and the midpoints of its edges are also in convex position.

Micromechanical Characterization of 316L‐V4E Steel Transitions Produced by Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion with Dual‐Hopper Alternating Layer Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work applies High‐Speed Nanoindentation to study multi‐material transitions in powder bed fusion–electron beam melting components. The aim is to assess the mechanical gradients and interfacial behavior between American iron and steel institute 316L stainless steel and V4E tool steel in additively manufactured structures.

Unbiased Finite Element Mesh Delaunay Constrained Triangulation Applied to 2D Images with High Morphological Complexity Using Mathematical Morphology Tools Part 1: Binary Images

open access: yesComputation
We propose a method for establishing a Constrained Delaunay Triangulation CDT applied to 2D binary images of high morphological complexity. A prerequisite for CDT is the unbiased definition of the Planar Straight-Line Graph PSLG, which must respect the ...

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Experimental Analysis and Physics‐Based Analytical Model on Twisted and Coiled Artificial Muscles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Twisted and coiled artificial muscles made from silver‐coated nylon fibers are investigated through experiments and analytical modeling. The actuators achieve contractions up to 19.3% and specific work of 8 kJ kg−1, though efficiency remains limited (≈0.15%) by thermal losses.

Outerplanar graph drawings with few slopes

open access: yes, 2014
We consider straight-line outerplanar drawings of outerplanar graphs in which a small number of distinct edge slopes are used, that is, the segments representing edges are parallel to a small number of directions.

Recent Advancements in Bulk Processing of Rare‐Earth‐Free Hard Magnetic Materials and Related Multiscale Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article provides an overview of recent advancements in bulk processing of rare‐earth‐free hard magnetic materials. It also addresses related simulation approaches at different scales. The research on rare‐earth‐free magnetic materials has increased significantly in recent years, driven by supply chain issues, environmental and social concerns, and

Untangling polygons and graphs

open access: yes, 2008
Untangling is a process in which some vertices of a planar graph are moved to obtain a straight-line plane drawing. The aim is to move as few vertices as possible. We present an algorithm that untangles the cycle graph C_n while keeping at least \Omega(n^
