Derangements in intransitive groups

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Let G$G$ be a nontrivial permutation group of degree n$n$. If G$G$ is transitive, then a theorem of Jordan states that G$G$ has a derangement. Equivalently, a finite group is never the union of conjugates of a proper subgroup. If G$G$ is intransitive, then G$G$ may fail to have a derangement, and this can happen even if G$G$ has only two ...

Exploring Artificial Intelligence's Potential to Enhance Conventional Anticancer Drug Development

open access: yesDrug Development Research, Volume 86, Issue 7, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Cancer affects one in three to four people globally, with over 20 million new cases and 10 million deaths annually, projected to rise to 35 million cases by 2050. Developing effective cancer treatments is crucial, but the drug discovery process is a highly complex and expensive endeavor, with success rates sitting well below 10% for oncologic ...

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 19, Page 2718-2749, October 2025.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

Baseline Impaired Insight Predicts Longitudinal Brain Atrophy in Alzheimer's Disease and Related Cognitive States: A 30‐Month Cohort Study From the ADNI Dataset

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
This research explored whether the psychological marker of insight in participants with Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive states was correlated with brain atrophy on MRI over a 30‐month period. The research found that overestimation of ability is correlated with increased rates of brain atrophy in this ADNI cohort.

Comprehensive Segmentation of Deep Grey Nuclei From Structural MRI Data

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 46, Issue 14, 01 October 2025.
The proposed deep grey nuclei pipeline can either work on white‐matter‐nulled (WMn) MPRAGE or standard T1 data, which gets converted to WMn‐like contrast prior to segmentation, which uses a multi‐atlas framework. In addition to 12 thalamic nuclei, 8 other structures comprising the basal ganglia, red nucleus, claustrum, and amygdala are segmented ...

MS Fatigue Post High‐Efficacy Treatment

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 32, Issue 10, October 2025.
Fatigue affects up to 95% of people with multiple sclerosis (MS), yet its response to high‐efficacy treatments (HETs) remains unclear. This meta‐analysis of 18 studies found a small but significant reduction in fatigue, particularly physical fatigue, following continuous HETs.
