Diet breadth shapes gut microbiota in the invasive hornet Vespa velutina
Dietary and microbial profiles of V. velutina larvae are dominated by Apidae and Firmicutes, respectively. DNA metabarcoding of larval meconium and gut samples reveals a significant positive correlation between prey richness and bacterial diversity in the invasive hornet V. velutina. Multiple significant correlations exist between dietary and microbial

A century of research on the Planctomycetota bacterial phylum, previously known as Planctomycetes
Abstract One hundred years after planctomycetes were discovered and 50 years since the first isolate was successfully cultured, this bacterial phylum remains enigmatic in many ways. In the last few decades, a significant effort to characterize new isolates has resulted in >150 described species, allowing a more comprehensive ...

Three genotypes – a heat‐resistant maize (Zea mays), a heat‐susceptible maize, and a sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) variety – were grown to the V4 stage in growth chambers under optimal conditions or subjected to heat stress. Plants were grown in soil containing a complex microbial community, or in the same soil with a depleted microbiome.

Abstract BACKGROUND Landfill gas (LFG) and leachate are commonly treated separately through energy‐intensive processes. This study evaluated the integration of both streams in an anaerobic biotrickling filter (BTF) to achieve simultaneous methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) removal coupled with ammonium (NH4+) transformation, and how the microbial ...

ABSTRACT The extensive microbial diversity found in the oceans is becoming to be uncovered despite limited knowledge and cultured representatives for many taxonomic groups. This study analysed the distribution and diversity of Planctomycetota at four water column profiles of

Primary productivity coupled to oxic methane production in coastal waters of southern China
Abstract Oxic methane (CH4) production (OMP) occurs in diverse oxygenated surface waters worldwide. However, phytoplankton‐driven OMP in natural marine environments remains poorly documented. During a research cruise in the highly productive southern East China Sea, we measured OMP by incubating phytoplankton‐rich surface waters and found that CH4 ...

The eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and membrane-enclosed organelles for functions such as energy production, whereas the prokaryotic cells have a cell wall but no intracellular membrane-bound structures.

Many bacteria inhabiting high-salinity environments accumulate compatible solutes, water-soluble organic compounds that are highly congruent with cellular biochemistry and physiology. This “salt-out” strategy counteracts cytoplasmic water loss, maintains

Social organization and habitat use shape the gut microbiome of a marine fish
This study provides the first evidence linking habitat use—and to a lesser extent social organization—to gut microbiome composition in a wild marine fish. The results indicate that local habitat conditions are the primary driver of microbial variation, while social effects are detectable but weak.
