Plane State of Strain and Plane State of Stress

2000
Generally speaking a solution of three-dimensional problems of elasticity theory is hard to obtain. It is therefore important to analyze a simpler case in which the quantities involved (stresses, strains, etc.) depend on two spatial coordinates only. In this class of problems belong the plane strain and so-called generalized plane stress problems that ...

The ratio of out-of-plane to in-plane stresses for plane strain problems

Meccanica, 2008
The ratio of out-of-plane to in-plane stresses for elastic-plastic plane strain problems reported in literatures is discussed in this note, and another simple expression is proposed. As general relations for plane strain problems, these formulae may be helpful in the elastic-plastic analyses.

Plane State of Strain

1970
Among all theoretical problems of the theory of elasticity, the two-dimensional problems of plane strain (or stress) belong to the most frequently considered and discussed ones; this is caused, first of all, by the relative simplicity of the governing equations owing to the reduced number of unknown components of the displacement, stresses and ...
