The Promise of Solid Lubricants for a Sustainable Future

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lubricants are vital for technology, saving energy and resources. The industry seeks sustainable solutions beyond fossil fuels. Solid lubricants offer extremely low friction and reduce environmental impact, especially in harsh conditions. Can these solids truly replace liquid lubricants, or are they limited to extreme applications?

A numerical sensitivity study on the snow-darkening effect by black carbon deposition over the Arctic in spring [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics
The rapid warming of the Arctic, driven by glacial and sea ice melt, poses significant challenges to Earth's climate, ecosystems, and economy. Recent evidence indicates that the snow-darkening effect (SDE), caused by black carbon (BC) deposition, plays a

Performance Constraints of All‐Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells in Low‐Intensity, Low‐Temperature Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
All‐perovskite tandem solar cells are evaluated under low‐intensity and low‐temperature (LILT) conditions relevant to space environments. Distinct loss regimes emerge, where weaker entropic mixing causes halide segragation below ≈240 K going along with a strong current imbalance, while poor electron transport in C60 dominates.

Development of Laterally Graded X‐Ray Multilayer Optics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents the development of laterally graded X‐ray multilayer optics with both constant and variable lateral gradients. By precisely controlling substrate speed profiles and mask design, these multilayers achieve highly accurate lateral gradients and excellent sagittal thickness uniformity, making them ideal for spectroscopy application at ...
