Variability of depolarization of aerosol particles in the megacity of Beijing: implications for the interaction between anthropogenic pollutants and mineral dust particles [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2018
East Asia is suffering from severe air pollution problems due to intensive anthropogenic emissions and natural mineral dust aerosols. During transport, the aerosol particles undergo complex mixing processes, resulting in great impacts on regional air ...

A Black Carbon‐Tracer Method for Estimating Cooking Organic Aerosol From Aerosol Mass Spectrometer Measurements

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
Cooking organic aerosol (COA) constitutes a considerable fraction of organic aerosol (OA) in urban environments, yet it is often challenging to resolve COA in summer through positive matrix factorization of unit mass resolution spectra of OA from aerosol

Fast domain-aware neural network emulation of a planetary boundary layer parameterization in a numerical weather forecast model

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development, 2019
. Parameterizations for physical processes in weather and climate models are computationally expensive. We use model output from the Weather Research Forecast (WRF) climate model to train deep neural networks (DNNs) and evaluate whether trained DNNs can ...

Assessment of responses of North Atlantic winter sea surface temperature to the North Atlantic Oscillation on an interannual scale in 13 CMIP5 models [PDF]

open access: yesOcean Science, 2020
This study evaluates the response of winter-average sea surface temperature (SST) to the winter North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) simulated by 13 Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) Earth system models in the North Atlantic (NA) (0–65∘ N)

Impacts of biomass burning in Southeast Asia on aerosols over the low-latitude plateau in China: An analysis of a typical pollution event

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2023
From March to April, widespread forest fires and agro-residue burning frequently occur in Southeast Asia, which release large amounts of gas species and aerosols and impact air quality over the wide source and downwind regions.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
