Wood‐Derived Nanocellulose‐Biocarbon Fresnel‐Zone Plate Lenses for Sub‐THz Frequency Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Wood‐derived nanocellulose and lignin‐based biocarbon were combined to fabricate fully bio‐based Fresnel zone plate (FZP) lenses for sub‐terahertz frequencies. These sustainable FZP lenses exhibit low dielectric loss and high directivity, achieving performance comparable to that of metallic references, and remain functional under environmental stress ...

Mathematical study of degenerate boundary layers: A Large Scale Ocean Circulation Problem

open access: yes, 2018
International audienceThis paper is concerned with a complete asymptoticanalysis as $\mathfrak{E} \to 0$ of the stationary Munk equation $\partial_x\psi-\mathfrak{E} \Delta^2 \psi=\tau$ in a domain $\Omega\subset \mathbf{R}^2$, supplemented with ...

Effects of Liquid Clouds on GPS Radio Occultation Profiles in Superrefractions

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, 2019
Inversion of radio occultation (RO) measurements to atmospheric parameters in the neutral atmosphere utilizes the assumption of spherical symmetry by implementation of the Abel transform.

Multilayer Biobased Poly(ethylene furanoate)/Graphene Oxide Nanofibrous Membranes With Directional Water Transport for Efficient Microplastics Filtration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A self‐assembled multilayer biobased PEF/GO nanofibrous membrane was developed by electrospinning for efficient PLA microplastics (MPs) filtration. The membrane combines superhydrophilicity, directional water transport, mechanical robustness, and a synergistic size‐exclusion interception and electrostatic repulsion MPs separation mechanism, enabling ...

Effects of the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse on the Structure of the Planetary Boundary Layer: A Preliminary Analysis

open access: yesAtmosphere
A total solar eclipse provides an unparalleled opportunity to study the changes in the atmosphere’s planetary boundary layer (PBL) due to changes in radiative heating.

Mechanics of inhomogeneous turbulence and interfacial layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The mechanics of inhomogeneous turbulence in and adjacent to interfacial layers bounding turbulent and non-turbulent regions are analysed. Different mechanisms are identified according to the straining by the turbulent eddies in relation to the strength ...

A Cryopreservation‐Based Supply Chain Strategy for Extrusion Bioprinting in Space

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Extrusion bioprinting on crewed space platforms requires a bioink that stays functional along the logistic chain. Here, cells and biomaterial ink travel separately, the cells cryopreserved and the ink cold stored, and are combined only minutes before printing.

Geophysical flows over topography, a playground for laboratory experiments

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Physique
Physicists face major challenges in modelling multi-scale phenomena that are observed in geophysical flows (e.g. in the Earth’s oceans and atmosphere, or liquid planetary cores).

Programmable Variable‐Stiffness Multilayer Elastomer Composites With High‐Aspect‐Ratio Low‐Melting‐Point Alloy Inclusions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
High‐aspect‐ratio low‐melting‐point alloy inclusions are embedded within multilayer silicone laminates to create thermally programmable stiffness. Sequential activation of alloy‐rich layers produces four distinct mechanical states and reconfigures tendon‐driven actuator trajectories under the same load.

Transport and mixing processes during the Antarctic ozone increase

open access: yesAntarctic Record, 2010
The 44th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE-44) performed intensive ozonesonde observations at Syowa Station (69.0゜S, 39.6゜E) from June 2003 through January 2004 to clarify the time evolution and mechanism of the Antarctic ozone hole ...
