The high density of radiation in the L α line of hydrogen should be evaluated as the most characteristic property of a PN. This is one of the basic conclusions brought out by the radiative transfer theory for PNs (Chap. 11). As for the flux of Lα radiation, it is different in various layers of the nebula.

▪ Abstract A review of planetary-entry gas dynamics is presented. Evolution of a blunt-body flowfield from a free molecular flow environment to a continuum environment is described. Simulations of near-wake flow phenomena, important for defining aerobrake payload environments, are also discussed.
