Social organization and habitat use shape the gut microbiome of a marine fish
Journal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.This study provides the first evidence linking habitat use—and to a lesser extent social organization—to gut microbiome composition in a wild marine fish. The results indicate that local habitat conditions are the primary driver of microbial variation, while social effects are detectable but weak.
