Unique Na5−xSbSe Phase Enables High‐Rate Performance of Sb2Se3 Anodes in Na‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The (de)sodiation mechanism of Sb2Se3 is revealed through advanced operando techniques and ab initio simulations and underscores the value of complementary methods in exploring battery mechanisms. A new Na5−xSbSe phase is identified as the final sodiation product of Sb2Se3 anodes in Na‐ion batteries (NIBs), which enables the remarkably high‐rate ...

Prolonged Multi‐Phase Magmatism Due To Plume‐Lithosphere Interaction as Applied to the High Arctic Large Igneous Province

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
The widespread High Arctic Large Igneous Province (HALIP) exhibits prolonged melting over more than 50 Myr, an observation that is difficult to reconcile with the classic view that large igneous provinces (LIPs) originate from melting in plume heads ...

High-resolution simulations of the final assembly of Earth-like planets. 2. Water delivery and planetary habitability. [PDF]

open access: yesAstrobiology, 2005
The water content and habitability of terrestrial planets are determined during their final assembly, from perhaps 100 1,000-km "planetary embryos " and a swarm of billions of 1-10-km "planetesimals.

Recent Advances in Understanding the Sex Pheromone‐Mediated Communication of Diatoms

open access: yesChemPlusChem, EarlyView.
Pheromones control the sexuality and mate finding in diatoms, a group of highly abundant unicellular marine algae. The diatom pheromones presented here are elucidated using a metabolomics‐based approach. This review introduces new structures, methods, and conceptual advances and discusses future perspectives in diatom research.

Understanding the Behavior of High‐Tech and Non‐High‐Tech Firms on Environmental Sustainability: New Evidence From the United States

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Achieving environmental goals requires transformative change that supports the development of high‐tech industries for the deployment and diffusion of existing technologies. As technology evolves continuously, businesses in the high‐tech industry play a crucial role in this transition by introducing new technologies and practices that impact ...

Challenges in dating blanket peat and implications for understanding its initiation in Ireland

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Blanket peat is widespread in maritime extra‐tropical environments. Prehistoric land‐use activity was traditionally invoked as the stimulus of blanket peat initiation in the British Isles, but recently, climate has been viewed as the driver of peat formation.

Identification and characterization of a new ensemble of cometary organic molecules

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
A new analysis of Rosetta mass spectra reveals an ensemble of complex organic molecules with striking similarities to other organic reservoirs in the Solar System, including Saturn’s ring rain material, pointing at a likely joint prestellar history.

Terrestrial Lithium Exploration Adapted From Raman Diagnosis of Phyllosilicates for Mars

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Analyses using a benchtop Raman instrument at the University of Aberdeen and a prototype instrument for remote deployment on Mars based at the University of Leicester successfully discriminated between four varieties of mica (possibly lithium‐rich rocks).
