Tilted Circumbinary Planetary Systems as Efficient Progenitors of Free-floating Planets

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The dominant mechanism for generating free-floating planets has so far remained elusive. One suggested mechanism is that planets are ejected from planetary systems due to planet–planet interactions.

Global models of planetary system formation in radiatively-inefficient protoplanetary discs

open access: yes, 2011
(Abridged) We present the results of N-body simulations of planetary systems formation in radiatively-inefficient disc models, where positive corotation torques may counter the rapid inward migration of low mass planets driven by Lindblad torques.

Tunable 3D Aerosol Jet Printing of Low‐Power Redox‐Gated Transistors with Multicomponent Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Printed hybrid electronics emerge as a versatile option for fabricating microelectronics using customized multicomponent inks. Leveraging additive manufacturing, redox‐chemistry, and correlated metal oxide nanoparticles, this study presents a multilayered solid‐state VO2 transistor fabricated via aerosol jet printing.

High‐Resolution Stereolithography of Amorphous, Dense and Mechanically Stable Bioactive Glass

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Porous scaffolds made of bioactive glass are of great interest for bone tissue engineering. The geometry and resolution of the scaffold is impacting its bioactive and mechanical performance. Utilizing stereolithographic 3D printing of bioactive glass, human cancellous bone scaffolds, and other structures are fabricated with features as small as 77 µm ...

Planet migration and gap formation by tidally-induced shocks

open access: yes, 2001
Gap formation in a gas disk triggered by disk-planet tidal interaction is considered. Density waves launched by the planet are assumed to be damped as a result of their nonlinear evolution leading to shock formation and its subsequent dissipation.

Poka: A Necro‐Robot Beetle with a Measured Payload Ratio of 6847%

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Here, Poka, a necro‐robot beetle with the ability to carry more than 68 times its own weight, is introduced, making it also a walking robot with the highest payload ratio measured to date. This paper is concerned with the design, manufacture and validation of ‘Poka', a novel millimetre‐scale necro‐robot aimed at bridging the performance gap between ...
