The binary fraction of planetary nebula central stars I. A high-precision, I-band excess search [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We still do not know what causes aspherical planetary nebula (PN) morphologies. A plausible hypothesis is that they are due to the presence of a close stellar or substellar companion. So far, only ∼40 binary central stars of PN have been detected, almost

René Girard's Revision and Misapprehension of Psychoanalysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Psychoanalytic Studies, Volume 22, Issue 2, June 2025.
ABSTRACT René Girard's theories of mimetic desire, religious sacrifice, and violence have been immensely provocative and influential. His ways of framing literary desire and conflict are fascinating, as they illustrate how desire and rivalry unleashed lead to violence and derangement.

MULTI-STAGES OPTIMIZED PHOTOIONIZATION MODELLING OF PLANETARY NEBULA LMC SMP-21

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2012
The new approximation expression for the representation of gas density distribution in planetary nebulae envelopes was proposed. The new multi-stages method for the caclulation of the chemical composition and physical parameters of planetary nebulae ...

Classification of Planetary Nebulae through Deep Transfer Learning

open access: yesGalaxies, 2020
This study investigate the effectiveness of using Deep Learning (DL) for the classification of planetary nebulae (PNe). It focusses on distinguishing PNe from other types of objects, as well as their morphological classification.

In Search of Possible Associations between Planetary Nebulae and Open Clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We consider the possibility of cluster membership for 13 planetary nebulae that are located in close proximity to open clusters lying in their lines of sight. The short lifetimes and low sample size of intermediate-mass planetary nebulae with respect to nearby open clusters conspire to reduce the probability of observing a true association.

Abell 41: shaping of a planetary nebula by a binary central star?

open access: yes, 2010
We present the first detailed spatio-kinematical analysis and modelling of the planetary nebula Abell 41, which is known to contain the well-studied close-binary system MT Ser.

A new Planetary Nebula in the outer reaches of the Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A proper determination of the abundance gradient in the Milky Way requires the observation of objects at large galactiocentric distances. With this aim, we are exploring the planetary nebula population towards the Galactic Anticentre. In this article, the discovery and physico-chemical study of a new planetary nebula towards the Anticentre direction ...

Testing the binary hypothesis for the formation and shaping of planetary nebulae

open access: yes, 2012
There is no quantitative theory to explain why a high 80% of all planetary nebulae are non-spherical. The Binary Hypothesis states that a companion to the progenitor of a central star of planetary nebula is required to shape the nebula and even for a ...

New Planetary Nebulae [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1993
As a complement to the “Strasbourg–ESO Catalogue of Galactic Planetary Nebulae” (Acker et al. 1992), we give the list of newly discovered planetary nebulae.
