Alternating High‐Fat and Polysaccharide Diets Modulates Gut Phage‐Bacterial Interplay

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals how alternating high‐fat and polysaccharide diets reshape the human gut virome and enhance phage‐bacteria interactions. Using large‐scale metagenomic meta‐analysis and a time‐resolved mouse model, the authors show that diets strongly modulate phage abundance, lifestyle, and gene exchange, offering new insights into nutrition‐guided ...

Stellar chemistry and planet size: Insights from GALAH DR4

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
The well-known correlation between stellar metallicity and the presence of planets is strongest for giant planets and weaker for smaller planets, suggesting that detailed elemental patterns beyond [Fe/H] may be relevant.

Coupled Above‐ and Belowground Ecosystem Stability Worldwide

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Are the worlds above and below our feet in sync? This global exploration reveals an entangled fate between above‐ and belowground ecosystem stability. It identifies arid regions as hotspots for this coupling and highlights temperature stability as a vital safeguard for maintaining ecosystem balance across our warming planet.

High-resolution Simulation of Coronal Mass Ejection–Corotating Interaction Region Interactions: Mesoscale Solar Wind Structure Formation Observable by the SWIFT Constellation

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present an unprecedented simulation of how two large-scale heliospheric transients—a coronal mass ejection (CME) and a corotating stream interaction region—collide, producing a dramatic increase in the complexity of the CME due to formation of ...

Bioenergy Cropping Reduces the Spatiotemporal Scaling of Soil Bacterial Biodiversity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Consistent with patterns observed in plant and animal communities, soil bacterial communities exhibit significant species–time–area and phylogenetic–time–area relationships independent of nested structure. Bioenergy cropping significantly reduces the spatiotemporal scaling rates, particularly in sandy loam soils.

Feline‐Inspired Robot Enabled by Combustion‐Driven Actuators for Agile Motion and High‐Payload Obstacle Traversal

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by nature's competitive maneuvers, this study introduces a combustion‐driven soft actuator that powers a multi‐modal “Jump‐and‐Fly Catbot” (JFC). With millisecond response, high‐force output (over 70 times its weight) and precise control (error within 5%), the robot can jump, fly, hover, and escape from challenging environments, achieving ...

Compliant Polymeric Sheet‐Based Heat Exchangers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents flexible, transparent, and deployable polymer heat exchangers that achieve a heat transfer capacity per cost up to 4x higher than the state of the art, surpassing both metal and other polymer counterparts. The tube‐on‐tube design enables efficient heat transfer without flow occlusion, while the lightweight, corrosion‐resistant, and ...
