Temperature structure of nongray planetary atmospheres

Icarus, 1969
Abstract To reduce by several orders of magnitude the number of frequency points needed in calculating net fluxes for molecular atmospheres, transmission average opacities are introduced. A power-law representation of these broad-band opacities is suggested for paths at constant pressure and temperature and generalized to nonhomogeneous paths.

Fresnel zone structure in planetary occultations

Radio Science, 1981
In many planetary and satellite occultations, both at light and at radio wavelengths, there may exist two propagation paths around an occulting body. The shorter of these two paths traverses the nearest portion of the limb, supports a stronger signal, and accounts for all radio occultation measurements to date.
