Impact Crater Morphometry on Pluto: Implications for Surface Composition and Evolution

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
New Horizons showed that Pluto exhibits a wide range of geologic groups, with much of the surface modified by volatile ice processes. Impact craters are a valuable tool to investigate how these regions have evolved, as they record the effects of various ...

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

X-ray diffraction as a function of temperature for Fo92-Fa8: implications for the hermean surface. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
It is well known that the surface of Mercury shows temperature variations extremely large at specific locations [1]. Such a range can cause strong crystal structure changes and, as a consequence, the detected spectral signature could be significantly

Field‐Programmed Anisotropy in Magneto‐Piezoelectric Composites for Material‐Encoded Mechanoperception

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Field‐programmed anisotropy imparts material‐level intelligence to soft composites. Magnetic torque dynamics drive magneto‐piezoelectric nanowires from random dispersion into deterministic axial alignment. The resulting hierarchical percolation networks confine electromechanical coupling to specific axes and intrinsically decouple superposed force ...

De Novo Autogenic Engineered Living Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A versatile platform for de novo autogenic engineered living materials is presented, leveraging protein mining, computational modeling, and synthetic biology. By reprogramming the Escherichia coli curli machinery with β‐solenoid proteins from non‐model bacteria, macroscopic biomaterials with enhanced mechanical properties, UV‐C irradiation protection ...

Wood wasp inspired space and earth drill [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this chapter, we explain why the low gravity encountered on Mars or on the Moon and the low mass of the probes, landers and rovers that carry drilling devices limit classical drilling techniques.

Expanding the Global Martian Landslide Inventory with Multimodal DINOv2 Feature Fusion and SVM Classification

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Landslides are globally distributed on Mars and resemble terrestrial analogues in morphology. Understanding the spatial distribution of Martian landslides provides key constraints on Martian surface processes, tectonic activity, and the environmental ...

Electrochromic Adaptive Solar Heater and Sub‐Ambient Passive Daytime Radiative Cooler

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An electrochromic Cu–Bi nanocluster device dynamically switches between solar heating and daytime sub‐ambient radiative cooling without mechanical motion. Defect‐activated graphene, minimized electrolyte loss, and pulse‐assisted reversible electrodeposition enable opposite solar and mid‐infrared modulation in one opaque platform, establishing a design ...
