Abstract The long history of reindeer herding in Fennoscandia has shaped the mountain tundra by influencing its productivity, nutrient and carbon cycling and vegetation structure. By partly limiting shrub expansion, extensive reindeer grazing contributes to ecosystem resilience and helps mitigate climate change effects.

Nonlinear density waves in planetary rings
Icarus, 1986We discuss the steady-state structure of the nonlinear density waves generated in a planetary ring at the Lindblad resonances of a satellite. We show that strong density waves lead to an enhancement of the background surface density in the wave zone.

A study is made of hydromagnetic oscillations in a rotating fluid sphere. The basic state is chosen as a uniform current parallel to the axis of rotation. It is found that the non-dissipative normal modes are described by a modified form of the Poincaré eigenvalue problem. For small rotation rates, the lowest non-axisymmetric modes are unstable.
