Several groups of LysM-RLKs are involved in symbiotic signal perception and arbuscular mycorrhiza establishment

open access: yesNature Communications
Lipo-chitooligosaccharides (LCO) and short-chain chitooligosaccharides (CO) are produced by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and activate the plant symbiosis signalling pathway, which is essential for mycorrhiza formation.

Fungal-mediated consolidated bioprocessing: the potential of Fusarium oxysporum for the lignocellulosic ethanol industry

open access: yesAMB Express, 2016
Microbial bioprocessing of lignocellulose to bioethanol still poses challenges in terms of substrate catabolism. The most important challenge is to overcome substrate recalcitrance and to thus reduce the number of steps needed to biorefine lignocellulose.

Symbiotic Plant-Bacterial Endospheric Interactions

open access: yes, 2018
While plant-microbe symbioses involving root nodules (Rhizobia and Frankia) or the root-soil interface (rhizosphere) have been well studied, the intimate interaction of microbial endophytes with the plant host is a relatively new field of research.[...

Ultrafast visual detection of Streptococcus suis via HtpsC‐targeted LAMP–CRISPR–Cas12a coupled with lateral flow immunochromatography

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A rapid visual test combines DNA amplification, CRISPR–based target verification, and a lateral flow strip to detect Streptococcus suis. The assay gives results in about 45 min, reduces false‐positive interpretation, and does not require fluorescence equipment.

Insights into Bacterial Extracellular Vesicle Biogenesis, Functions, and Implications in Plant–Microbe Interactions

open access: yes
International audiencePlant-microbe interactions play a crucial role in shaping plant health and survival. In recent years, the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in mediating intercellular communication between plants and microbes has emerged as an ...

Diabetes‐Associated Cognitive Impairment: Pathophysiology and Emerging Therapies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Diabetes‐associated cognitive impairment (DACI) is a common yet underrecognized condition, manifesting along a spectrum from mild cognitive impairment to dementia. DACI encompasses patients who develop vascular dementia (VaD) or Alzheimer's disease (AD) with diabetes as a risk factor; however, in certain patients, particularly those lacking ...

Signatures of host specialization and a recent transposable element burst in the dynamic one-speed genome of the fungal barley powdery mildew pathogen

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2018
Background Powdery mildews are biotrophic pathogenic fungi infecting a number of economically important plants. The grass powdery mildew, Blumeria graminis, has become a model organism to study host specialization of obligate biotrophic fungal pathogens.

Experimental evolution of mutualistic plant-microbe interactions in the rhizosphere

open access: yes, 2019
We are living on a hungry planet and securing food supply for the steadily increasing human population is a major challenge for mankind. The productivity of agricultural and horticultural crops is constrained by lack of nutrients, abiotic stressors as ...

Wearable Smart Patches on Sustainable Chitosan With Reversible Microbial Growth‐Inhibitory Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chitosan, a polysaccharide upcycled from biowaste, has long promised sustainable, biocompatible, and antimicrobial films and devices, an appeal reinforced by its recent regulatory recognition, with several chitosan‐based antibacterial dressings gaining clearance through the Food and Drug Administration's 510(k) pathway.
