Using geocaching as a teaching tool with student architects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Geocaching is a global positioning system (GPS) based treasure hunt game that is played throughout the world. Participants find hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS coordinates and then share their experiences online.

Temperature Regulation in Multicore Processors Using Adjustable-Gain Integral Controllers

open access: yes, 2015
This paper considers the problem of temperature regulation in multicore processors by dynamic voltage-frequency scaling. We propose a feedback law that is based on an integral controller with adjustable gain, designed for fast tracking convergence in the

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Meta‐analysis fails to show any correlation between protein abundance and ubiquitination changes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed over 50 published proteomics datasets to explore the relationship between protein levels and ubiquitination changes across multiple experimental conditions and biological systems. Although ubiquitination is often associated with protein degradation, our analysis shows that changes in ubiquitination do not globally correlate with changes in ...

Analysis of Crown and Root Orientation of Quercus suber in Relation to the Irrigation System Using a Magnetic Digitizer

open access: yesAgronomy
This study investigates the effect of the spatial distribution of soil water and nutrients on cork oak (Quercus suber) architecture. Fertirrigation is being tested in cork oak plantations to accelerate tree growth up to the production stage.

DigR : how to model root system in its environment? 1 - the model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Many models already exist through literature dealing with root system representation, among which pure structure models such as Root Typ (Pagès 2004), SimRoot (Lynch 1997), AmapSim (Jourdan 1997); diffusion PDE models (Bastian 2008; Bonneu 2009) and ...

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Re-evaluating the role of plant traits in cross-scale vegetation simulations: evidence from coastal dwarf forests

open access: yesGIScience & Remote Sensing
Trait-based approaches provide a novel perspective for predicting vegetation patterns and dynamics. However, the spatially continuous mapping of plant traits used in such predictions are often derived from environmental proxies rather than direct trait ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...
