Measuring and modelling plant area index in beech stands

International Journal of Biometeorology, 2004
For some beech ( Fagus sylvatica L.) stands with different stand densities the plant area index (PAI) was measured by means of a Licor LAI-2000 plant canopy analyser. The stands are located on the slopes of a valley in south-west Germany and had been treated by different types of silvicultural management (heavy shelterwood felling, light shelterwood ...

Indirect Estimation of Leaf Area Index in VSP-Trained Grapevines Using Plant Area Index

American Journal of Enology and Viticulture, 2013
Leaf area index (LAI) and canopy structure are important parameters affecting grape quality and yield of grapevines. Two different experimental protocols as well as the average LAI value of the different protocols for indirect estimation of LAI by gap fraction analysis in VSP-trained grapevines (Vitis vinifera L. cv. Riesling) were tested in this study

DETERMINATION OF THE PLANT AREA INDEX OF OLIVE TREES BY HEMISPHERICAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Acta Horticulturae, 1999
Destructive measurements of leaf area index (LAT) were compared with values of plant area index (PAI) obtained by hemispherical photography in an unevenly-aged olive orchard in Southern Tuscany, Italy. The measured LAI destructively increased from 0.8 in one-year old plants to 2.8 in 10-year-old trees.

Measuring leaf area index of plant canopies with branch architecture

Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 1991
Radiation transmission through plant canopies is shown to be determined not only by the geometry of the foliage elements (leaves), but also by the geometry of foliage clumps. When the geometry of tree branches (thin slabs of foliage in which leaves are confined) was considered with a Poisson model, it was found that beam transmission measurements at a ...

Image analysis estimation of leaf area index and plant size of young hazelnut plants

Journal of Horticultural Science, 1996
SummaryA nondestructive method of leaf area estimation was evaluated on two year old hazelnut plants cv. Tonda Gentile Romana grown in the field. Black and white photographs of 22 plants were taken from two directions at 90° and processed by means of a Vidas image analyzer (Kontron Elektronic) to obtain an estimation of leaf area.
