Microbial threat– a growing challenge for plant biosecurity [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology Australia, 2012
Australia is relatively free from many of the plant pathogens that seriously impact on agricultural production and natural environment in other countries. This provides a valuable competitive advantage for Australia’s plant industries in terms of securing market access and maintaining lower production costs.

The endoribonuclease Arlr is required to maintain lipid homeostasis by downregulating lipolytic genes during aging

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
While disorders in lipid metabolism have been associated with aging and age-related diseases, how lipid metabolism is regulated during aging is poorly understood.

Interference of ATP‐Binding Cassette Transporter by Functional Nano‐Delivery System for High Efficiency Management of Insecticide‐Resistant Nilaparvata lugens

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A ZIF‐90 nanocarrier delivers dinotefuran and suppresses NlABCG3 and NlABCH1 in resistant Nilaparvata lugens. This system combines pH/ATP‐triggered release with enhanced foliar retention, improving efficacy while sparing honeybees and promoting rice growth, offering a promising resistance‐breaking strategy.

Herbivory‐Induced Stomatal Opening Triggers the Dispersal of an Invasive Insect Herbivore

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The invasive leafminer Phthorimaea absoluta uniquely manipulates plant defenses by inducing stomatal opening in tomato. This response, mediated by the stomatal regulator IQM1, enhances the release of the repellent volatile benzaldehyde. This volatile triggers the dispersal of adult moths, facilitates colonization of new hosts, and leads to rapid ...

Better biosecurity risk management through collaborative planning and shared decision making

open access: yes, 2016
Planning and decision making to manage plant biosecurity risks is inherently complex, often contentious, involves unknowns and uncertainty, and needs to be adaptable to rapidly changing situations.

Metabolomics for Plant Health Biosecurity Diagnostics and Response

open access: yesSustainability, 2023
The increasing diversity of potential biosecurity threats makes their diagnosis a complicated and evolving area, requiring moving beyond traditional taxonomic species identification. New biosecurity diagnostic tools should provide a greater depth of information on threat biology to enable accurate risk assessment for the more efficient and effective ...

Opportunities and limitations for DNA metabarcoding in Australasian plant-pathogen biosecurity

open access: yes, 2022
Protecting plants from new pathogen incursions requires effective surveillance practices. Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding shows considerable promise for detecting invasive organisms in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.

An Effector TaCRVP From Tuta Absoluta Oral Secretion Impairs H2O2‐Mediated Plant Defense by Targeting Tomato SlCAT2

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Tuta absoluta salivary effector TaCRVP subverts tomato immunity by hijacking host catalase SlCAT2. Through a sophisticated dual mechanism, TaCRVP simultaneously promotes SlCAT2 tetramerization for activation and blocks its SlAdBiL‐mediated degradation for stabilization.
