Fusion of Biotechnology and Craftsmanship: Bacterial Treatment to Improve Bashofu Fiber Extraction
Bashofu is a traditional Okinawan textile made from thin banana fibers. The raw materials derived from banana leaf sheaths are composed of plant fibers and unwanted constituents such as the plant cuticle layer.

Defects in leaf epidermis of Arabidopsis thaliana plants with CDKA;1 activity reduced in the shoot apical meristem [PDF]
In Arabidopsis thaliana, like in other dicots, the shoot epidermis originates from protodermis, the outermost cell layer of shoot apical meristem. We examined leaf epidermis in transgenic A.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Chemical and Ultrastructural Changes in the Cuticle Observed in RabA2b Overexpressing Plants
The plant cuticle is a hydrophobic layer covering the cell wall that protects cells from pathogen invasion and water loss. In this study, we analyzed the cuticles of transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana plants overexpressing the vesicular trafficking small ...

Leaf Optical Responses to Light and Soil Nutrient Availability in Temperature Deciduous Trees [PDF]
Leaf optical parameters influence light availability at the cellular, leaf, and canopy scale of integration. While recent studies have focused on leaf optical responses to acute plant stress, the effects of changes in plant resources on leaf optics ...
