Creating a bacterium that forms eukaryotic nucleosome core particles

open access: yesNature Communications
The nucleosome is one of the hallmarks of eukaryotes, a dynamic platform that supports many critical functions in eukaryotic cells. Here, we engineer the in vivo assembly of the nucleosome core in the model bacterium Escherichia coli.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

RPAD locus controls prostrate growth habit in Oryza nivara

open access: yesThe Plant Genome
The development of ideal plant architecture is crucial for optimizing grain yield in crop breeding. The transition from prostrate growth habit in wild rice to erect growth habit in cultivated rice is one of the important events during rice domestication.

Understanding the Impact of Different Nucleation Strategies on Bis(2-hydroxyethyl) Terephthalate Crystallization from a Glycolysis Reaction Mixture

open access: yesCrystals
The recycling of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is gaining increasing importance, as it enables the conversion of plastic waste into valuable raw materials and contributes to a circular economy.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Gγ-protein GS3 Function in Tight Genetic Relation with OsmiR396/GS2 to Regulate Grain Size in Rice

open access: yesRice
Manipulating grain size demonstrates great potential for yield promotion in cereals since it is tightly associated with grain weight. Several pathways modulating grain size have been elaborated in rice, but possible crosstalk between the ingredients is ...

SLR1 inhibits MOC1 degradation to coordinate tiller number and plant height in rice

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Due to reduced gibberellin sensitivity, modern rice cultivars are shorter than traditional varieties but produce more tillers and have higher yields. Here Liao et al.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.
