CPK28-mediated Ca2+ signaling regulates STOP1 localization and accumulation to facilitate plant aluminum resistance

open access: yesNature Communications
The transcription factor SENSITIVE TO PROTON RHIZOTOXICITY 1 (STOP1) functions as a crucial integrator of plant responses to various stresses, including aluminum (Al) stress.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Chromosomal-level genome assembly of Trichogramma dendrolimi (Trichogrammatidae: Hymenoptera)

open access: yesScientific Data
Trichogramma dendrolimi is an essential egg parasitic wasp with a broad host range and has been widely used for controlling agricultural and forestry pests.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

In vivo assembly of complete eukaryotic nucleosomes and (H3-H4)-only non-canonical nucleosomal particles in the model bacterium Escherichia coli

open access: yesCommunications Biology
As a fundamental unit for packaging genomic DNA into chromatin, the eukaryotic nucleosome core comprises a canonical octamer with two copies for each histone, H2A, H2B, H3, and H4, wrapped around with 147 base pairs of DNA.

Electrodialysis and electrodialysis reversal for the concentration of Li containing solutions [PDF]

open access: yesPort Said Engineering Research Journal
In this paper, the application of electrodialysis reversal (EDR) in the recovery and concentration of lithium chloride and lithium carbonate solutions is described. Both salts are raw materials that can be used for the production of lithium ion batteries.

Antagonistic Yeasts: A Promising Alternative to Chemical Fungicides for Controlling Postharvest Decay of Fruit

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2020
Fruit plays an important role in human diet. Whereas, fungal pathogens cause huge losses of fruit during storage and transportation, abuse of chemical fungicides leads to serious environmental pollution and endangers human health.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
