Using plant functional traits and phylogenies to understand patterns of plant community assembly in a seasonal tropical forest in Lao PDR [PDF]
Plant functional traits reflect different evolutionary responses to environmental variation, and among extant species determine the outcomes of interactions between plants and their environment, including other plant species. Thus, combining phylogenetic

This project developed a smart bandage‐like patch (a microneedle array) for repairing diabetic bone damage. It intelligently senses signals from infection and inflammation, then releases its medicines in a specific, timed sequence: first an antibacterial agent, then an anti‐inflammatory agent, and finally growth factors.

The Genetic Basis of Plant Functional Traits and the Evolution of Plant-Environment Interactions
Leaves are the most conspicuous organs of plants, and their form and function are key determinants of plant ecology. Moreover, energy captured by leaves through photosynthetic carbon reduction forms the base of nearly every terrestrial ecosystem. As such,

Two‐Way Shape Memory Polymer Composite Gripper for Adaptive Robotic Applications
A two‐way shape memory polymer (SMP) composite is developed with intrinsic shape‐changing capability driven solely by temperature, eliminating external actuation loads. Embedding the SMP in a low‐stiffness elastomeric matrix enabled reversible transformations during heating and cooling cycles.

Plant functional traits have globally consistent effects on competition
Phenotypic traits and their associated trade-offs have been shown to have globally consistent effects on individual plant physiological functions1,2,3, but how these effects scale up to influence competition, a key driver of community assembly in ...

Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Functional traits modulate plant community responses to alien plant invasion
It is well known that alien plant invasion modifies the composition and diversity of resident plant communities, yet our ability to predict patterns of vegetation responses to invasion is hampered by a poor understanding of which functional traits make ...

Shaping Carbon Nitrides for Advanced Macrostructures
This review examines how carbon nitride can be shaped through a range of printing and interfacial assembly methods. By bringing together additive manufacturing and liquid–liquid structuring concepts, carbon nitride is moving beyond its traditional powder‐based photocatalyst form toward digitally designed robust macroscale architectures with high design
