Raw experimental data from paper "Activated Carbon mixed with marine sediment suits as bioanode material for Spartina anglica Sediment/Plant Microbial Fuel Cell: plant growth, electricity generation and spatial microbial community diversity"

open access: yes, 2019
The main objective of this study was to investigate the suitability of mixture of activated carbon and marine sediment as a bioanode in a plant-MFC system with Spartina anglica.

Plant secondary metabolites as defenses, regulators, and primary metabolites: the blurred functional trichotomy

open access: yes, 2020
The plant kingdom produces hundreds of thousands of low molecular weight organic compounds. Based on the assumed functions of these compounds, the research community has classified them into three overarching groups: primary metabolites, which are ...

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Acute and Chronic Toxicity of Indole Alkaloids from Leaves of Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. in Mice and Rats

open access: yesNatural Products and Bioprospecting, 2020
Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. (Apocynaceae) is an evergreen tree that has been used to treat lung diseases. In this study, the toxicity profile of indole alkaloids from leaves of A. scholaris was investigated.

DETECTION OF VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS FOR THE EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF FIRE BLIGHT ON ASYMPTOMATIC PLANT MATERIAL

open access: yes, 2013
DNA-based protocols are the golden standard for the diagnosis of infected plant material. Nevertheless, these methods are time-consuming and require trained personnel, with an efficacy depending on the sampling procedure.

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

Whole-Plant Growth Stage Ontology for Angiosperms and Its Application in Plant Biology [PDF]

open access: yes
Plant growth stages are identified as distinct morphological landmarks in a continuous developmental process. The terms describing these developmental stages record the morphological appearance of the plant at a specific point in its life cycle.

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.
