Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Cellular water distribution, transport, and its investigation methods for plant-based food material

open access: yes, 2017
Heterogeneous and hygroscopic characteristics of plant-based food material make it complex in structure, and therefore water distribution in its different cellular environments is very complex.

Plant pathogens as biocontrol agents of Cirsium arvense : an overestimated approach? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Cirsium arvense is one of the worst weeds in agriculture. As herbicides are not very effective and not accepted by organic farming and special habitats, possible biocontrol agents have been investigated since many decades.

Kent Ekolojisi Açısından Diyarbakır Kenti Açık-Yeşil Alanlarında Kullanılan Bitki Materyallerinin Değerlendirilmesi

open access: yesResearch in Agricultural Sciences
Kentsel açık yeşil alanlar, kentlerdeki bahçeler, parklar, yeşil koridorlar, yol peyzajı ve benzeri alanları kapsamaktadır. Bu alanlar rekreasyonel aktiviteler dışında insan psikoloji ve insanlar arası sosyal etkileşimi sağlayan önemli mekânlardır ...

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

[Letter to the editor] Ethylene emitted by nylon membrane filters questions their usefulness to transfer plant seedlings between media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Transfer of seedlings between media is a time-consuming process because the traditional, widely used method involves using forceps to transfer the plantlets one by one. The previously reported solution to avoid such a laborious procedure is the use

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Ligature Strangulation with a Plant Vine: A Rare and Unusual Case

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Science and Medicine
Ligature strangulation happens when anything external, other than the weight of the body, is wrapped around the neck to compress it. The frequently used tools for such asphyxiation are rope, cord, wires, scarf, ties, towels, chains, stockings bed linen ...

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...
